Office 365 is a Microsoft cloud subscription service that provides a variety of Microsoft Office applications and other services such as OneDrive, Microsoft's cloud storage solution, for a fixed monthly fee. It's been around since 2011 when it replaced the Business Productivity Online Suite, or BPOS, aimed at corporate customers.

Each device differs slightly in price, functionality, and usable number of devices per user to give Microsoft customers the flexibility they need. And each one comes with 1TB of personal cloud storage in the cloud, thanks to Microsoft OneDrive. Unless a change in strategy is currently unpredictable, Microsoft will sell most of its products in the foreseeable future.
There will be no old models with long development cycles and monolithic software versions that spend a lot of changes to upgrade the licenses and work required to upgrade your devices and trainers every few years. This is being replaced by a new monthly subscription model with integrated cellular updates and support services.
While you currently have a choice between the two models, Microsoft believes it makes sense to switch Office to the full subscription model at a later time. Every business prefers regular monthly income and additional manageable changes to its products over large, expensive, and risky changes that may or may not generate revenue. Running a non-sales version of Windows or Office is just a waste of money and can result in an even worse drop in sales.
